ABOUT THE DINGHY

This dinghy may be the most practical ever designed to be used with boats up to about 50 – 60 feet. It was designed by world renowned naval architect Yves-Marie Tanton.

By breaking down into three parts, you can carry a large stable dinghy on a small boat, giving you the size necessary for carrying up to five people and/or a large amount of supplies.

A unique feature is that the center section can used by itself, eliminating the need to launch and assemble the two additional sections unless needed.

One or both sections can be added on depending on how much capacity you need.

Because the center section by itself is a complete boat, the other two parts can be attached while you are in it. This is much easier than trying to assemble it while on the mother craft.

Assembly is easy due to a unique connector design. As much as we looked, we could never find what we considered to be suitable connectors – strong and easy to use.

This boat can be rowed, sailed, or powered with a small outboard.

For sailing, a sprit rig will be used. It is simple with fairly good performance, as well as being easy to put up and take down.

Leeboards on each side will be necessary. There is no room for a daggerboard trunk – the boat needs to remain open so as to enable nesting. Having leeboards will increase the beam by a few inches, however they do perform well.

We are developing this for the home builder in plywood using stitch-n-glue construction.

This is a concept that I would be very interested in. I hope it works out and as soon as it goes into production I would love more details. I hate blowing up and putting the floors into my inflatable. Larry

Larry – we don’t really have plans for production at this time. We are doing tis primarily for the home builder, to build out of plywood using stitch-n-glue construction. Brad
